The Old Swan Hotel, 27 Manchester Road, Ince

Started by: Dave Holbrook (4)

Hello everyone.
Is it possible that anyone might be able to help me please?
I'm researching my Family History and I've been able to determine from the 1911 Census that my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother were the Publicans at The Old Swan Hotel, 27 Manchester Road, Ince.
Is it possible anyone can offer any background history or hopefully pictures of the establishment?
Many thanks and fingers crossed.

There's no name on, as it seems to have closed down. But, THIS is a pub and is 27 Manchester Road, Ince in Makerfield.!

The Old Swan or Swan as it was commonly known was situated between the end of the row of the pub and shops in Tonkers picture, and the first electric lamp on the left.
According to the Ince directory in 1925 the licensee was John Kenyon.

Many thanks for that, it is appreciated.
My Great Grandfather, John Pollitt and his wife Elizabeth were Publicans at the Public House in 1911.
My Grandfather, he was 13 at the time was declared on the 1911 Census as the Housekeeper.
Subsequently the family moved to Royston near Barnsley to find work as Coal Hewers.
I suspect I will find more information if I research 'The Swan' as opposed to 'The Old Swan'
Many thanks again

Dave ,if you are on Facebook, there is a group called "Characters of Ince" and I would be surprised if you didn't get a more positive response on there if you or a family member joined.
We only went into the Swan on Saturday nights in the early 70's as it was very lively, and a chap called Stan Winrow,a real character was on the piano.
